Tonka Building Supplies is a full service millwork supplier to the building industry in the greater Minneapolis - St. Paul metropolitan area and the surrounding state.

Our product lines include well know top national and international product lines along with products that do not have the name recognition but have exceptional quality. We manufacture our own prehung door units and buy direct the majority of our moldings and stair parts. We offer commercial hardware lines and the services of a commercial hardware specialist.

Our personnel is what is important about our company. Our average employee has 5-10 years experience in the millwork or related industries. Experienced people are behind our estimating and field measuring services to our clients. Sound advice, accurate estimates and on-time performance is what our typical client expects from Tonka Building Supplies and that is what we deliver.

Our newest addition to Tonka Building Supplies is our subsidiary operation called The Builders Source in Fort Thomas, Ky. (located in the greater Cincinnati area). We cover an approximate 150 mi. radius range from that location into greater Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana and West Virginia. This is headed by a very experienced Window Representative, Dave Mullen. Historical Information

Our company was incorporated in May of 1986 by four individuals: George La Motte, Ed Michael, Bob Prins and Barry White. Our name was derived from our first location in Minnetonka. We had a small but functional 3000 sq ft office/warehouse. The four owners learned the meaning of "sweat equity" as performed the duties of office staff, sales, purchasing, delivery and so on. Another business partner, Jim Wyman, joined TBS in 1988. Jim brought his purchasing experience to the growing demands of our company.

The growth of customers brought the need for more employees. Always the philosophy toward hiring new employees were they necessary and do they have the experience. TBS became involved in the manufacturing of interior prehung door units in 1988. This manufacturing process forced us to move to a 17,000 sq ft facility in Plymouth, MN. We remained at that facility until 1998 when space restrictions again forced our move to the present location in Rogers, MN.

We own our present facility of 32,000 plus sq ft and have expansion room to grow. Our newest facility in greater Cincinnati consist of a office/showroom and separate warehouse facility. They will merge together in the near future.
